Our client\'s Design Engineers develop products from design brief through to manufacture. To succeed in this role you must be ambitious and creative with a passion for innovative, consumer-focused product design. You will be an excellent contributor in a team or project environment and be able to manage your workload to get the job done.

Applicants should offer a track record of successful new product introductions and will preferably possess experience in Electro-Mechanical Consumer Product Design utilising 3D CAD (ideally with Injection Moulded Plastic, Die Castings and Sheet Metal pressings). The ability to sketch, make models, test prototypes and develop products is required. In addition you will be familiar with tooling techniques and DFM for volume production.

Experience

- Degree qualified (or min. HNC, HND) – Mechanically Biased.
- 5+ years experience in product design and development
(Preferably Consumer Products)

Skills:

- Excellent written and verbal communication, problem solving and analytical skills
- Self starter - ability to work independently.
- Concept Generation
- 3D CAD Design (Unigraphics/Siemens NX5 or above preferred – or suitable alternative system)
- 2D Detail Draughting
- MS Office.
- Fluid Sketching ability.
- Prototype design and manufacture.
- Robust Engineering Design
- Ability to generate multiple solutions to problems.
- Systematic approach to problem solving.
- Practical and methodical design development through prototyping and testing.
- Value Analysis / Engineering.

- Design, Development, Tooling and Manufacture of:
- Plastic Mouldings
- Die Castings
- Sheet Metal Pressings and Fabrications
- Standard Components.
- Designing Small Mechanisms.
- Material types and usage.
- Design for mass production.
- Process capability.
- Design and Tolerance analysis.
- Feasibility Studies.
- BOM Creation and Management.
- Engineering Change Control.
- Component & Product Costing.
- FMEA techniques.
- Rapid Prototyping techniques and materials.
- Safety Standards and Approvals.
- Intellectual Property Rights.

Responsibilities:

1. Design and development of new products in-line with the company New Product Development (NPD) programme, which meet the Product Design Specification (PDS).
2. Design and development of Standard design specifications in support of the company NPD programme.
3. Specification of test requirements and development and direction of prototype testing.
4. Take an active, hands-on role to ensure that all engineering problems are resolved thoroughly.
5. Document control.
6. Management of own Project Deliverables
7. Supervision of Development Technicians and less senior Engineers.
8. Liaise with other departments as required. (Marketing, Quality, Approvals etc.)


Accountabilities:

1. Supporting the Design and Development Team Leader in interpreting and translating the PDS into product design proposals and ultimately a finished design, which meets specification, is within planned timescale, and at or below target cost.
2. Participating in regular design reviews.
3. Operating CAD and other software as applicable.
4. Prototype design, manufacture and testing.
5. Department administration as applicable.
6. Maintaining records as applicable.
